This relates to any opportunities where a student is required to pay for an activity offered by a third party. This could include (but not exclusively) a training course, conference attendance or admittance onto a placement register. It is intended to establish and maintain recognised standards for both students and opportunity providers engaging with The Careers Group, University of London.

Opportunities should adhere to the Employers Code of Practice to ensure that they are legally compliant and they are not deemed liable to bring the university into disrepute.

In addition, opportunities requiring payment will only be advertised if they are deemed by The Careers Group to be:

  • directly related to careers and employability
  • providing an opportunity for students which  is not commonly available in a similar format elsewhere, free of charge or for a lower payment
  • provided by an organisation of verified quality. This may be through (but not exclusively) accreditation from / affiliation to a professional body, a quality charter mark or testimonials from a range of known external organisations

As part of our ongoing quality control we may on occasion request that a member of staff attends the activity at no additional cost. We would ask that opportunity providers respond positively to such requests.

The Careers Group will endeavour to assist organisations in advertising to suitable students but reserves the right not to advertise an opportunity.
